Q. What is an exchange?
In pure simple terms, it is one member of WhyBeStatic.com staying in the holiday home of another member for the duration of an agreed period.

Q. Who exchanges?
All of our members are holiday home owners, generally static caravan and chalet owners, and are all situated somewhere within England, Scotland or Wales.
All our members are persons just like yourself who would like to experience the variety and enjoyment that touring England, Wales and Scotland can bring while still wanting to enjoy the comfort and convenience that a holiday home can offer.

Q. What are the advantages of exchanging?
There are many advantages of exchanging your holiday home for a vacation.

Savings:The typical cost of hiring a caravan is around £300 per week. By exchanging you will not pay any fee regardless of the length of stay. As a member you can exchange as many times in a year as you wish, with whoever you wish.
Be a Non-Tourist: Most people are looking for something different, exchanging is different. You can experience the country and area first hand, you are not restricted to package holiday excursions, herded from one place to another without time to take in the atmosphere.
Freedom and Choice: Exchanges give you the freedom to tour England, Scotland or Wales for a fraction of normal prices, while staying in the comfort of a holiday home.

Q. How do I know my holiday home is safe?
We have had no instances of damage and no reports of theft. We ask all our members to treat the holiday home their staying in with the same respect as they would their own and we encourage all our members to leave the holiday home as they found it, in relation to the level of tidiness etc. Remember that your holiday home is much safer while someone is there, because it is not empty.

Q. Who pays the bills?
Pay your site fees and utilities as you normally would. We find that with persons staying in your holiday home as well over the year the amount of gas/electric you use at other members holiday homes is similar to the total amount of gas/electric used at your own holiday home.

Q. What about insurance?
In general, most insurance policies cover exchanges. After all, you have given them permission to stay and so can be classed as your guests, so it's really no different from having friends or relations stay in your holiday home.
We always advise you to check with your insurer to make sure before exchanging.

Q. Would someone want to visit my area?
England, Wales and Scotland have many popular holiday destinations from the Lake District to the Scarborough coastline. With all our members owning their own holiday home on-site somewhere in the UK then from time to time a change of scenery can be very nice. Somebody on the coast may like to exchange and stay in the Lake District for example for a different kind of holiday or alternatively they may wish to exchange and explore the variety of coastline up and down the country.

Q. What types of holiday home will I be staying in?
You will probably stay in a static caravan or chalet as most of our members own this type of holiday home.

Q. I own a touring caravan. Can I become a member?
No, sorry. Members must own a static holiday home (E.g, static caravan, chalet, etc) to be eligbile for membership.

Q. Who are WhyBeStatic.com?
WhyBeStatic.com has been set up to specialise in helping holiday home owners across England, Scotland and Wales to exchange holiday periods with each other. We do not offer caravans or chalets for rent or sale.
[top]

Q. Do I need a contract?
This is not usually undertaken, as an exchange usually involves staying in each others accomodation at the same time. If you wish to have a contract of your own then you can send it to the prospective exchangee for them to sign and return before the exchange takes place.
[top]

Q. What if my exchange falls through at the last minute?
This is extremely unusual once someone has agreed to exchange. WhyBeStatic.com can not accept any liability for any costs incurred in arrangements made on an exchange that falls through. Including, but not limited to, travel arrangements, additional accommodation costs, etc.

Q. What if I have pets I like to take on holiday?
As part of our membership application we ask prospective members if pets are allowed to stay within the holiday home. This will be shown when you are viewing prospective places to stay.

Q. Is my caravan safe if I allow strangers in?
All our members have given us their home address, holiday home site address and contact information and so it would be very unlikely they would intentionally cause any damage to your holiday home. With all our members owning their own holiday home then they care just as much about your property as they would expect you to care about theirs. Their fears are just the same as yours.
In any event, your normal insurance will probably cover for accidental damage whilst you are away, but you will need to contact your own insurer to be certain of this. It is also a common fact that your holiday home is safer occupied whilst you are away than being left empty. Do inform your neighbours on your holiday home site that you have arranged for someone to be in your property, they may wish to meet them and it could prevent any problems from arising when they see someone other than yourself staying in your holiday home.
